[attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Looking out the window of his studio apartment and study, Travis hummed to himself, tapping his pencil rhythmically on the legal pad of paper under him, some scribbled notes of minor renovations and plans written down in slanted neat looping script. He had always been good about his letters, his mother had taught him to be sure, but certainly wanting to be a doctor hadn't hurt. It was almost a miracle he wasn't tired to death of writing after schooling, but he found it was always the best way for him to track and organize his thoughts. Nothing made him feel better and more focused then being able to jot things down, and if he didn't write it down he tended to forget it or get distracted.Downstairs the service bell dinged and Travis immediately got to his feet, his pencil dropping to the paper as he moved to the door and started descending instantly, chirping out a friendly "Coming!" as he did so. It had been a couple hours since Tessa had come in, and he hoped most fervently it was not her again coming back having reinjured her shoulder. He had tried to be extra firm in his warnings, but her reply had left him assuming she was still intending to work, regardless of his words. Concerned, he felt a prick of uncertain dread as he swiftly descended the stairs, not sure whether it was better to hope someone needed services of if she had had misfortune to need him a second time. For better or worse though, as Travis reached the bottom floor, he noted that it was not, indeed, Tessa. It was however, still someone unfamiliar to him. Ahhh, one of the other newcomers! It was both exciting and worrying to have two new faces in one day, it was a delight to see them himself and not just hear about them from the town and Vivian, but it was somewhat disconcerting that so early on they were coming to him. Again his thoughts returned to bad omens, and he had to push away his fretful thoughts about what this might mean to have such early misfortune before things had even truly begun. It was likely naught but just injuries due to being unfamiliar to hard labor suddenly he imagined, things catching them off guard because they were still unfamiliar with the area and the activities they were doing. Trying to turn his thoughts away, Travis smiled at the man leaned against the counter slightly instead, studying them with interest. They must be either the other rancher or the carpenter then, though which he wasn't sure. Certainly they looked used enough to hard labor to fit the bill of either, features soft and slanted with defined angles but the manner messy with ruffled short ebony hair and a scuffed dress fit for the wood or outdoors. Dark eyes fixed him sharply, and Travis greeted himself cheerfully, glad to meet another stranger, even if the circumstances were likely less then fortunate. "Greetings! You must be anozher vone of the newcomers, it's fantastic to meet you!" A slight grimace, realizing his excitement and nervousness were overcoming his manners, and a moment later he rectified himself. "But, ah, pardon me, Doctor Quentin, you can call me Dr. Quinn. Vhat can I do for you, is anything vrong?" It took only a moment for the other man to answer, and while Travis was dissapointed to see that they didn't give any sort of name or introduction, he caught on that they seemed to just want to get straight to business and get this done with. Holding in his sigh, uncertain whether he was really disheartened by the lack of friendliness or expected it really, he nodded at their pronouncement. "Mm. Wasp sting and fire ant bite" They were likely simply more work-oriented, or at least at the present moment less inclined towards chatter. Then again, who would be with a wasp sting and an ant sting both? Perhaps in better times they would be more friendly, and even if not, a work-orientated soul might be just the sort to help them accomplish the goals they needed to save their island. Focusing on the issue presented, Travis thoughtfully considered a moment then immediately moved towards the shelves, thinking aloud and making sure there were no extra variables or dangers to consider as he did. For the most part both types of sting were pretty harmless, wasps just had to be waited out and were painful, and as long as ants were not scratched at too much they generally went away on their own as well. "Aha, I see. Vell zhen... that schould be pretty easy fixes, I'm assuming you aren't allergic to eizher or having any bad reactions right? No schortness of breath or anyzhing?" Glancing up as he got no verbal answer, Travis was relieved to note the shaking of the man's head as he looked up. Ah good, good. Taking another painkiller, Travis frowned as he realized that was the last of his weaker ones. It felt strange to run out in one day when he had rarely had opportunity to use them for months. It was good for business, but having business at all was always worrying. He would have to.... definitely get some more then it seemed. Shaking his head slightly, he took a tube of cream as well, standing to put them on the counter and pass them over to the man with an explanation. "Hydrocortizone... apply it to bozh stings, it should relieve zhe itching. You might vant to vash bozh of zhem first zhough, zhere is a zink just to your left by zhe beds vith soap and paper towels. I'll get zome ice to help the svelling, and take zhat herb zhere to help vith zhe pain. It... might be a bit bitter, I can get a glass of vater to vash it down if needed." Watching them nod, he moved over to the ice box, hesitating to see if he would need to get a glass of water. Tessa hadn't needed one and this man was getting a similar vibe from this man. Much as Travis expected, they shook their head as they swallowed the herb. Dipping his head in acknowledgement, Travis took out a bag and filled it with ice, then got a second, making two small ice packs as the man went to the sink to wash the stings and apply the cream. Waiting a moment to give them space as they shed their clothing and tended to both sites, as they went to throw away their paper towels Travis finally stepped over, smiling awkwardly now that he felt a bit less intrusive into their space and business. "And here, zome ice." He said, offering both packs as the man silently took them both. "I'd recommend about tventy minutes to numb it and bring down the svelling. That schould be it though, vonce the painkiller kicks in it schould calm down vith time." The response that answered was swift and cold, cutting straight to the point. "Is that all then?" Travis paused, resisting a slight frown. They really were very to the point... well, he didn't entirely blame them or find fault in it, it was just... perhaps a bit off putting. Letting out a breath, he assented to the statement though, not wanting to keep the man any longer if he was eager to get back to work. "Yes, if you'd like to go now zhat schould cover you." They nodded, seeming already to be thinking of something else as they forcefully exhaled through their nostrils. "How much for your services doctor?" Their question came, almost more like a statement in the rough tone. Again Travis hesitated, then, uncomfortable with the situation again of pricing and charging people for such a gracious and necessary act, he answered awkwardly. "Ah... 155 in total." Another nod from the quieter male, and Travis awkwardly accepted the coins offered towards him as the man took up his stuff again, slinging it over one shoulder with a brief "Thanks" and a nod, already turning to the door. Wryly smiling through uncertainly furrowed brows, he managed a hasty reply. "Your velcome. Stay safe!" Already they were moving to the entrance though, only seeming to pause long enough to nod before slipping through the door. Standing there a moment, Travis let out a sigh, then moved to put the cash away. Well... there certainly was more to that one he felt, but he wasn't yet sure how to interpret them based on such a brisk and blunt interaction and exchange. He only hoped the next time he saw them it wasn't in the clinic. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@tag [attr="class","burstmini"]@tag [attr="class","burstmini"]1,458 words [attr="class","burstmini"]notes: ewe other side now |
